Highwoods Country Park

There are a few wonderful places around Colchester that are ideal for beautiful portraits but Highwoods Country Park is one of our favourites.

The main thing we love about Highwoods Country Park is the wide variety of settings available to us, all within the one location. Whether you would like open fields, a lake, wildflower meadows, a canopy of trees and even a children’s play area, it has it all!

This local park provides a stunning backdrop to your engagement portraits in any season. Bring your sun hat and suncream for an evening summer stroll or wrap up warm and bring your wellies for a winter walk in the woods. Of course, spring and autumn are beautiful seasons for vibrant colours within nature.

We have photographed a number of engagement sessions at Highwoods Country Park, each with a different feel and focus. The time of year and area of the woods you choose plays a big part on the overall atmosphere of your pictures, and of course every couple is different too.

Being so central in Colchester it is easy to get to, even by bus. For those travelling by car, it has a large car park and a visitors centre from which the paths branch out in different directions. Parking is at a very reasonable price and it stays open until quite late, so we can utilise the best light in the evening no problem. The entrance is just opposite the main hospital on Turner Road but a few steps into the woods and you'll forget all about the built up town as you're surrounded by nature at every turn.
