In our new series on meeting local wedding suppliers, we meet Gary Morris from Travel Counsellors - his job is to create the perfect holiday experience for his customers, and, today he’s going to be talking a bit about honeymoons. Hope you enjoy...
Eleth: Hello Gary, perhaps you could introduce yourselves to our blog readers.
Gary: Hi Eleth, So I’m Gary Morris and currently living in Ipswich with my partner Janney and our 2 cats.
Eleth: I've heard that you have been in the travel industry for a long time; tell us about your business, Travel Counsellors...
Gary: I have indeed and have been in the industry for over 20 years now starting off in the High Street for a couple of major travel companies before moving into the world of Cruising for a major UK retailer holding various roles for 15 years.
My main goal is to provide my customers with what suits them the best and not what’s best for the company.
Being part of Travel Counsellors gives me access to hundreds of different companies allowing me to offer customers unique holidays and experiences.
I decided to make the jump and go out on my own and joined up with the Travel Counsellors franchise back in June 2020 which allows me to focus on a high level of personal service and excellent customer service, I’ve just noticed over the years that a lot of travel companies are less focused on the customer experience and more focused on selling what’s right for the company.
Eleth: Most of our readers will be interested in booking a honeymoon. Jason and I went to Iceland for our honeymoon - a few people gifted us money specifically towards it and this was a once in a lifetime holiday opportunity for us. Is there a way relatives can pay into an account with you for the newly-weds?
Gary: Absolutely! We have our Honeymoon Gift Registry service which is complimentary and allows the lucky couple’s friends and relatives to pay into their dedicated account which is 100% financially protected, the lucky couple can then track the progress via their dedicated webpage via our very own Travel Counsellors app.
Eleth: What would you recommend as your top three destinations / experiences for a honeymoon?
Gary: I would say the top three destinations for Honeymoons right now are Maldives, Mauritius and French Polynesia, but depending on when the couple are looking to travel I would work with them to find the perfect destination based on when it’s best to travel to certain destinations as this can vary.

Eleth: Do you cater for 'mini-moons'?
Gary: We do indeed and this again is becoming more and more popular and we have a great selection of options covering the UK & Europe and of course being totally independent we have access to more suppliers than some other Travel Companies.
Eleth: Obviously things are difficult with travel and COVID at the moment... What is your advice to those booking a honeymoon this year or next?
Gary: I am still hopeful with being able to travel this year and I would still recommend people to plan their Honeymoons and we would always work to find the most flexible option for the couple but rest assured by booking a package holiday you have more protection than by booking flights and hotels separately.
