Isabella and Josh’s traditional wedding at Layer Marney Tower

I met Isabella and Josh for the first time on their wedding day at Layer Marney Tower, but it didn’t feel that way at all. We’d chatted in the lead-up to the wedding, and from the moment I arrived it felt easy and familiar. They are a gentle, understated couple, completely at ease together - which set the tone for the day.

It was a traditional, spring wedding with Josh looking smart in top and tails. Isabella’s family had travelled over from Sweden, making it extra special.

A traditional English wedding at a historical venue with the cutest couple.

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the church on site at Layer Marney, which is definitely a favourite of mine. Despite being a traditional English church, it’s surprisingly light inside, which creates a calm, bright setting for photos. The ceremony itself was simple and heartfelt, with one of the bridesmaids delivering a reading that added a personal touch. It was a lovely balance of tradition and warmth, and a joy to document.

The Portraits

After the ceremony, guests gathered outside for drinks in the beautiful grounds. Isabella and Josh enjoyed a short drive together in the Rolls Royce provided by the venue - a classic Layer Marney moment and a chance for them to pause and take it all in.

For portraits, we stayed close to the towers - this allowed us to create elegant, relaxed images against the historic backdrop while keeping their time away from guests to a minimum.

Speeches

The meal and speeches took place in the barn, where I finished my coverage. Isabella’s parents delivered their speech with the help of a PowerPoint presentation on a big screen - a thoughtful and personal touch that brought plenty of smiles and tears.

There were no big theatrics or over-styled moments, just a traditional, relaxed wedding for a genuinely lovely couple, celebrated in a beautiful setting with the people who matter most.

It is so difficult to pick just one favourite photo, or moment, or even part of the day. What makes a wedding special for me, is when the couple and their families welcome me in to be part of the day and feel they can be themselves with me. That’s when we can create magic, like we did here.
