Wivenhoe House Wedding Photographer

Real wedding at Wivenhoe House, Colchester

As with a lot of 2021 weddings, we had a couple of date changes as the bride and groom wanted to avoid any restrictions. They wished to have a fun celebration with their closest friends and family, captured in natural, beautiful photographs.

The Signature Room at Wivenhoe House is a gorgeously grand setting for a fairly small wedding. The bridal party entered first, which included the couple's two sons, followed by the bride with her dad proudly walking her down the aisle towards her groom. The groom looked top-notch in his full, traditional wedding attire complete with top hat (when else do you get the opportunity to wear a top hat, right?) The ceremony went well and the huge smiles from the happy couple said it all. The best bit of all? When they were announced as the new Mr and Mrs the song that played was 'At Last' by Etta James - quite fitting for the occassion, and then half way down the aisle, the song switched up to something more upbeat and they danced their way into married life.

Their guests were so much fun; we had a great laugh during the formal group photos - which can often be the boring part of the day! And we haven't even mentioned the horse and carriage... the couple went on a short ride together which is a wonderful idea to take a moment to yourselves, not to mention the stunning photo opportunities. The horses even wore purple feathers to match the wedding colours.

Inside, the reception tables were decorated with purple trimmings and the cake was accompanied with lots of individual cupcakes. We love how the cake tells the story of engagement through to marriage and becoming Mr and Mrs. For the couple portraits we took the short walk down to the lake. They had specifically wanted a picture with the fountain in the background but unfortunately there were large barriers blocking that part of the lake on this day so we had to make it work in a different place. I think my absolute favourite image from this gallery is of the two of them walking back towards the house, with the groom holding the flowers over his shoulder - completely natural and unprompted making for an excellent portrait.

A message from the bride…

“Where do I start? We booked Mae photography after various date changes due to covid. (Finally having our wedding on our 4th date change 26th August 2021) and what absolutely brilliant service, Very quick to respond to any queries and requests we may have had. Everything was as we wanted and so much more. Eleth was so lovely and patient with the guests and the limited time we had. It was lovely to have her capture our ceremony and the group photos. The photos are beautiful and we have lovely moments captured for us to look back on. I only wish we had booked for the entire day. We ordered the USB as couldnt choose between the photos, and it comes in a pretty little box, such a nice presentation. We will be recommending to anyone that may ask. Thank you again for your amazing service.” Stacy Dixey
