It is very unique to have a venue that can accommodate a full wedding day, including a church ceremony! The history and character that Layer Marney offers is stunning for a traditional wedding.
The old English church within the grounds of Layer Marney is a beautiful place to hold your wedding ceremony. Churches are often quite dark for wedding photography, but this one is one of our favourites, as the light is wonderful for creating natural, bright photos.
Generous Grounds
If your wedding portraits are important to you, or you just want your guests to enjoy the day in beautiful surroundings, the grounds at Layer Marney are stunning.
This Colchester wedding venue, looks over the River Blackwater, has tree lined pathways, and even the building itself is a breath-taking backdrop. Every direction you turn are stunning views, perfect for your natural wedding photography.
Rooms Galore
Having made your promises in the church, you now have two options for your wedding reception. The long gallery is a very grand space to host your wedding breakfast. It doesn’t need much decoration added to it, as the architecture speaks for itself. Imagine doing your first dance in this grand ballroom!
Alternatively, you could move the evening celebrations into the barn next door for a large space that you can decorate as you wish, with a DJ or live band to get the party started.

That said, we have a soft spot for intimate, last-minute weddings and are more than willing to accommodate these with just a few months' notice. Whatever your timeline, we're here to capture your day beautifully.
