Interfering wedding photographer
Our approach to wedding photography is natural and relaxed. In short, this means we stand back and capture each moment for what it is, without too much involvement. This ensures we capture a natural photograph. However, this can sometimes be confused for a completely documentary approach with no involvement at all.

Finding the good light
The guests found this classic ring toss game to play, and set it up in an appropriate spot under the trees. I started taking photos of the action but very quickly realised the light here just wasn’t good! Some of the guests were standing in bright sunlight, while others were in shade. The dappled light coming through the trees was casting strange shadows on their faces and all around. I could have just carried on photographing this activity but the resulting pictures wouldn’t be very pleasing.
Instead, I politely stepped forward and asked if we could simply turn them round - have the guests throw the rings from the opposite direction. And I am so glad I got involved to set up the opportunity for great pictures! The results are significantly better with an even exposure throughout the frame and with fewer distractions from the strange shadows. Now, we can focus on the activity and the people’s reactions in the picture.
Morning prep
During the getting ready photos, I often find myself gently stepping in to offer guidance. I'll suggest the best spot for her to stand when stepping into her dress or delicately fastening her earrings, ensuring optimal lighting and backdrop for those memorable moments. Once everything is set, I prefer to fade into the background, allowing the natural flow of activity to unfold without further interruption. This approach ensures that the bride feels supported and at ease while getting ready, while still allowing me to capture those authentic and intimate moments with minimal disruption.
Apart from this, I am there to observe not interfere.
