Drummond Wedding: Private garden, Colchester

Bride and three bridesmaids, laughing together.

Flatford Mill, Colchester

George and Abi contacted us through our website after seeing our portfolio online. They decided not to have a pre-wedding consultation but to discuss their wedding package and photography requirements over the phone. This meant that we first met them on their wedding day, and they turned out to be a beautiful young couple.

The bride had booked a quaint English cottage in Dedham, Essex to prepare for her big day, alongside her bridesmaids and her mum. All of the girls were great fun to work with and we enjoyed spending the rest of the day with them. Abi had some great ideas for her wedding such as gorgeous flower crowns for her bridesmaids to match the outdoor, natural event it was going to be. The cottage was cosy but it was a lovely start to the day.

Private outdoor ceremony

Set in the gardens of the groom’s parents house, the ceremony was charming. They were very lucky with the weather as it was promising storms just a couple of days prior, but in fact the sun shone brightly all day. It was a humanist ceremony which is a non-religious, personal service that offers greater flexibility for your arrangements. The arch was positioned in front of a large willow tree creating a statement backdrop. The ceremony included a brief story of how the bride and groom met and ended up here today, along with the traditional exchange of rings.

Natural wedding photography

George and Abi found some quiet time away from their guests by driving to Flatford Mill in a classic British sports car. The couple had scouted out a field of buttercups overlooking the English countryside and nearby village as a chosen location which worked beautifully. For the group shots we had a wonderful time as they were all up for a laugh and for doing fun photos.

Wedding reception

The reception was held in a large, posh marquee and was a marvellous occasion. The speeches were funny, emotional and even incorporated props – a toilet plunger is not what you expect to see accompanying a story for a wedding speech. Two cakes were present; the traditional three-tiered sponge cake and a tiered cake made entirely of cheese. Everything had clearly been well thought out, down to the final details and came together to form the most beautiful wedding day. After the first dance, the guests needed no encouragement to make their way to the dance floor. Within seconds the marquee had transformed into a party venue with everyone on their feet boogying the night away.
